Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College

Football and Athletic Facility

The MGCCC is proudly anticipating the opening of the newly upgraded Football and Athletics facilities on its Perkinston Campus in Stone County. The 30,000 square foot project is the first major upgrade since the stadium was built in 1949. The expansion

to the football stadium includes classrooms, a new training room and more. The third floor of the addition will be a press box, which officials said would allow more access

for media group for visiting teams. The school is also upgrading concession stands and bleachers. The project has a target completion date of May 2016. The architect on project is Ely Guild Hardy/Biloxi.

Marine Education Center (MEC)

Starks Contracting welcomes their most recent sustainable project - The Gulf Coast Research (GCRL) - affiliated with the University of Southern Mississippi – that will be built on a primitive piece of land that is representative of the original coastal edge along the Gulf Coast, from Texas to Florida. The Marine Education Center (MEC) will be a 34,000 sq. ft. facility containing classrooms, laboratories, administrative offices, and exhibition areas.

Lake|Flato Architects/San Antonio was hired to design the new group of buildings as a replacement for the JL Scott Marine Center in Biloxi, which was destroyed by Hurricane Katrina, with the goal of making a building that answers the questions of how to develop

sustainably in a fragile yet harsh environment, it was determined that the project should pursue Certification through the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System. The MEC realized that not only is building green the right

thing to do for the environment, but it is also the practical thing to do as well, lowering

energy and maintenance costs, and increasing the marketability of the facility to increasingly sophisticated audiences and academic conferences. This project has an expected to complete in 2017.
